Giant ComfortPilot: Steering function integrated into the armrest
ComfortPilot combines ergonomics, precision, and safety in one integrated system. With the introduction of ComfortPilot, a new integrated steering module located in the left armrest, operator comfort is taken to the next level. This innovative solution allows the operator to intuitively control the machine with the left hand using active joystick steering—without disrupting the natural seating posture. The result? Reduced physical strain, increased precision, and improved productivity. ComfortPilot is ideal for tasks that require frequent steering movements.
Features of ComfortPilot
Control via the left armrest
Operation is carried out via the left armrest of the driver’s seat. A joystick located here allows the vehicle to be steered left or right. Additionally, there is a direction switch for easily toggling between forward and reverse. Three function buttons are also integrated: one for unlocking the bucket locking mechanism, one for operating the windshield wiper, and one for activating the horn.
The control module is adjustable, allowing it to be optimally positioned for an ergonomic working posture for every operator.
Function and steering behavior
ComfortPilot is a speed-dependent steering module that supports both conventional and joystick steering. Its operation is based on an electric power steering system that works in series with the hydraulic system. At low speeds, steering response is direct and precise, as the electric assist supports the hydraulic power steering. At higher speeds, responsiveness gradually decreases, resulting in a heavier steering feel and more stable driving behavior.
On-Road transport
The additional electric power steering enhances the driving experience during road transport. However, it is not recommended to use the active joystick control while driving on public roads. If both the joystick and the steering wheel are operated simultaneously and conflicting steering inputs occur, ComfortPilot will automatically deactivate for safety reasons. In such cases, the conventional hydraulic power steering remains active. To reactivate ComfortPilot, the ignition must be switched off and on again.
Availability
ComfortPilot will be available starting in the first quarter of 2026 for the GIANT G2700, G3500, and G5000 models. It is offered as a factory-installed option and can also be easily retrofitted as a field kit, thanks to the steering motor being integrated into the steering column.
